Eradicating Mental Health Stigma within Black communities: Black Mental Health Matters
Black Mental Health Matters Inc is committed towards eradicating stigma that exists in the Black communities when it comes to Mental Health.
According to recent research done by Rice University which involved the study of Black and Latino Christians found out they often turn to their pastors for mental health care and information on mental health resources. The sad reality is that those clergy reported they feel ill-equipped to offer the help their congregants need thus the need for mental health providers to establish partnerships with churches to refer congregants to mental health providers for support.
Though the world has been ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic ,the mental health pandemic within Black communities is often being ignored and this has exacerbated resulting into a spate of suicides involving prominent celebrities.
In order to normalize conversations around mental health ,Black Mental Health Matters Inc has been hosting weekly shows every Saturdays to provide a platform for Black communities to share their stories and experiences and through this network Mental Health professionals to collaborate in ensuring that our communities have access to mental health care services.
Many are afraid to openly speak about their mental health struggles and challenges for fear of being isolated by the community due to stigma which exists around mental health thus the need for a collaborative approach in raising awareness and breaking the stigma.
